Geometric gold and silver rings with recycled HDPE discs
Geometric gold and silver rings with recycled HDPE discs
These rings are part of HDPE/HOPE series, which re-uses HDPE plastic from a single-use milk bottle.
The pieces in this series are concerned with the environmental crisis and seek to question our perception of beauty & preciousness and its associations to materials such as gold and silver. They draw attention to the issue of ‘value’ attached to precious resources such as gold & silver and ‘single-use’ every-day items that are discarded and end in landfill, even though they are also made from a precious resource - oil. The pieces therefore aim to elevate the material plastic from waste to elegance.
There are two variants of this ring:
Style A - has a square top piece with a quarter 24ct gold circle (Keum-Boo) and 2 HDPE discs.
Style B - has a rectangular top piece with a quarter 24ct gold circle (Keum-Boo) and 3 HDPE discs.
Both rings are made from Argentium silver, 24ct yellow gold (Keum-Boo) and HDPE plastic discs which are micro riveted together. The ring shank is made from 1.6x1.4 mm D-section wire.
Materials: sterling silver, recycled 24ct (fine) gold foil (13 microns thick), recycled HDPE discs. All jewellery is hand-made by myself in my workshop and all pieces are hallmarked at the London Assay Office.
Size of silver top piece: Style A: 14x14 mm; Style B: 17x14 mm
My Ref: HBM113 A and B
Please see below further images of both rings, Style A (square with 2 HDPE discs) and Style B (rectangular with 3 HDPE discs).
