Teaching

Aside designing and making my own pieces, I have also been teaching jewellery making since 2018. I love this side of my work! I strongly believe that it makes me a better maker and I cherish the many questions that allow me to expand and grow my expertise.

I teach at Rachel Jeffrey Jewellery School in the picturesque Hertfordshire village of Wheathampstead. There, I teach regular day-time classes which usually run over 10 weeks. Currently, I teach these on Monday mornings (9.30am - 12 noon) and Tuesday mornings (9.30am - 12 noon). Additional day and evening classes are available there too but these are taught by different tutors. Please see Rachel’s website for details.

I also teach jewellery making one-day taster classes there (normally on Fridays), as well as master classes, which take place over a whole weekend and focus on a particular topic or technique.

2025

  • A new 10 week course will be starting on 8th September 2025 at Rachel Jeffrey Jewellery in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire.

    The classes are mixed levels but complete beginners, intermediate or advanced students are welcome.

    I start my teaching with a short demo on a theme of my choice, which will run over the duration of the 10 weeks. In the past such themes covered, earrings, necklaces, rings, beads etc. Students may wish to learn what was demonstrated but often have their own projects. I will guide complete beginners through a series of projects to build up their skills and support the more advanced students with whatever project they are working on.

    I teach the following 2 classes there:

    Monday Morning: 9.30am-12 noon

    Tuesday Morning: 9.30am-12 noon

  • Keum-Boo is the Ancient Art of Applying 24ct Gold Foil to Silver.

    This is my most popular course and I am delighted to teach it again at Rachel Jeffrey Jewellery in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire.

    It will take place over two days on the weekend of 11-12th October 2025, from 9.30am-3pm.

    Join us for a relaxed and enjoyable two days in which I will teach you how to successfully attach 24ct gold foil to a variety of sterling and fine silver shapes and forms.

    I will take you through all the different steps of this process and we will discuss finishing techniques, possible pitfalls and you will also learn the additional skill of micro-riveting, which is a useful skill to know in conjunction with Keum-Boo.

    If you have jewellery making tools, you are welcome to bring them, otherwise, the workshop is very well equipped and everything you need will be provided. For more information, please also see Rachel’s website and contact her team directly to book onto the course.

    This course suits beginners, though you should be familiar with basic jewellery making processes and techniques, such as soldering, annealing, sawing, filing etc.

  • I am very excited to offer a brand-new course at West Dean College. It will take place from 26th -29th October 2025.

    I designed this course with complete beginners in mind. But it would also suit those who are a bit rusty and would like an intensive refresher. The course will give them a solid introduction to the main jewellery making techniques.

    We will cover sawing, filing sanding, texturing, soldering, finishing, wire working techniques and findings. Each technique will be demonstrated, then practiced on copper before a piece in silver will be made.

    Each student will go home with a few completed pieces of jewellery in silver, various copper test pieces as well as detailed handouts, covering the techniques learned, which will serve as a future reference.

  • Keum-Boo is the Ancient Art of Applying 24ct Gold Foil to Silver.

    Join me for a relaxed and fun-filled course where we will be exploring the ancient Korean art of applying pure gold foil to silver.

    I will teach you how to successfully attach 24ct gold foil and create golden patterns on a variety of sterling and fine silver shapes and forms. I will take you through all the different steps of this process and we will discuss finishing techniques, possible pitfalls and you will also learn the additional skill of micro-riveting, which is a useful skill to know in conjunction with Keum-Boo.

    This course suits beginners, though you should be familiar with basic jewellery making processes and techniques, such as soldering, annealing, sawing, filing etc.
